Hacktivists Crash Botwana’s Ministry of Environment & Conservation In Protest of Countries Repeal of Elephant Hunting Ban

Yesterday, May 22nd 2019, the Ministry of Environment, Natural Resources Conservation and Tourism of Botswana announced the repeal of a ban imposed on all elephant hunting around the country. Deplorably enough, the Ministry claims to have reached this decision after recent “consultation with stakeholders,” whom supported the full repeal of the hunting ban after realizing the “the potential value and associated income to be derived from wildlife resources and related activities (elephant hunting).” You can read their full statement released to the public via the Facebook posting below.

However, in response to the news, it appears as though international hacktivists have already responded – considering that the website of the Ministry of Environment, Natural Resources Conservation and Tourism of Botswana has been rendered inaccessible to the international public via DDoS attack for the last two days – on through tonight. Indubitably, the actions of hacktivists are tied to “Operation Baby Elephants” (#OpBabyElephants), an international campaign designed to spread awareness about the exploitation of animals and elephants in the wild throughout the continent of Africa. If you would like to learn more about this operation, as well as the hacking communities contributions to it, you are invited to utilize the resources provided below.
