That’s how often you really need to change your linens

It is important to wash the sheets and change them frequently. Let’s discover the most important rules together.

Bacteria can live in our homes for days, weeks, or even months. It is therefore important to change the sheets regularly and, of course, to disinfect them with detergents.

How often should the sheets be changed?

Most people respect hygiene and cleaning measures. Even if it often seems like there is no dirt, that does not mean that there is not a large amount of bacteria. They can be found not only on bed sheets, but also on mattresses, in the bedroom and on countless surrounding objects.

As a general rule, sheets should be changed at least once a week. The most important reason is that bed linen is becoming anything but hygienic. Sweat settles on them, but also external dirt and body fluids.

When we talk about dirt on the sheets, we must also mention the possible presence of fungi. In addition, the dead cells of our epidermis are deposited in the tissue night after night. Their presence attracts mites, which is anything but healthy, especially for breathing.

How to wash bed linen

When it comes to washing sheets, it is worth paying attention not only to the periodicity, but also how to wash them. The first thing to keep in mind in this regard is not to mix the sheets with the clothes. So you can clean them thoroughly.

If you really want to destroy bacteria, you should pay attention to the following points:

Do not overdo it with the quantity: it is very easy to take all the clothes and wash a large quantity. But if you really want the washing machine to clean the linens well, you just need to put a set of sheets in it.

Program settings: If the sheets are heavily soiled, we recommend selecting the strongest program. In all other cases, a regular cycle is sufficient.

Leaving bed sheets in the washing machine for too long can shrink them, so we recommend washing them more frequently. If, for economic reasons, it is objectively difficult to wash bedding once, then it is better to use bed sheets with light cotton fabrics, but never with towels.

Let dry: Sheets usually take a little longer to dry than other garments.

Temperature: Although the sheets do not have difficult stains, it is best to wash them in lukewarm water, ie between 40 and 60ºC. This is the only way to prevent mites from surviving.
